Each month in conjunction with the general meeting, VAL produces an “Art Talk” series of known speakers and art demonstrations that are free and open to the public.\nThis month, join us for an engaging evening with Daisha Board, the Founding Director of Daisha Board Gallery, for a presentation called “Forget Being Discovered — Build Your Market: What the Data Says About Who’s Actually Buying Art Right Now.”\nUsing real market data and firsthand gallery experience, this talk shows every artist in the room exactly who is buying art right now, why, and how to get in front of them — regardless of where they are in their career.\nKey highlights:\n\nThe global art market shifted in 2024: the middle and lower price points are growing fastest\n63% of collectors bought directly from artists last year — no gallery needed\nWorks under $5,000 are driving the strongest growth globally\nWomen, 35–45, are the fastest growing and highest converting collector demographic\nEvery artist has a different buyer — this talk shows each group exactly how to find theirs\n\nAbout the Speaker\nDaisha Board is the Founding Director of Daisha Board Gallery in Dallas, Texas — recognized as the Best Art Gallery in Dallas by D Magazine in 2022 and 2023 — and the Founder of Black Sheep Art Culture, a nonprofit dedicated to amplifying the voices of historically underrepresented artists, including Black, Brown, LGBTQ+, and disabled creators. Through both organizations, she has built a platform where artists, collectors, and communities intersect across gallery exhibitions, arts education, public art initiatives, artist residencies, and the annual UNREPPED Art Fair.\nOver the course of her career, Daisha has curated more than 40 exhibitions and placed works by local artists into the permanent collections of the Dallas Museum of Art, the African American Museum of Dallas, the Black Chamber of Commerce, and corporate collections across the country. She is an experienced juror, having served in that role for exhibitions including the Members of the U.S. House of Representatives, Visual Arts Guild, Artspace 111, The Other Art Fair (Los Angeles and Brooklyn), Art 214, and the Dallas Mavericks Black History Month competition, among others.\nA recipient of the Business Council for the Arts Obelisk Award, presented by Nancy Nasher, Daisha currently serves on the AT&T Performing Arts Center Advisory Board and the Oak Cliff Society of Fine Art board. She holds a BA in Political Science and African American Studies from Bethune Cookman University.\nVAL Art Talks take place the second Tuesday of each month at the Lewisville Grand Theater, 100 N. Charles St, in Old Town Lewisville.\nThe Grand is Lewisville’s home for the arts. It presents a variety of regional and national touring performers, art exhibits, and classes, while also giving the many arts groups in the greater Lewisville area a facility to perform and display their works. Its multiple performance spaces play host to a variety of events, including live music, theater, dance performances, comedy shows, and more. The center features the 294-seat Huffines Performance Hall, black box theater, recital hall, art gallery, and courtyard.\nTo reach The Grand from Interstate 35E, take exit 452 and proceed east on Main Street to Charles Street. The Grand will be on the left. Free public parking is available along Main and Church streets, or at Lewisville City Hall across Church Street from the center.
