VAL Art Talk
Join the Visual Art League of Lewisville for its monthly general meeting at Lewisville Grand Theater, 100 N. Charles Street.
Each month in conjunction with the general meeting, VAL produces an “Art Talk” series of known speakers and art demonstrations that are free and open to the public. Join us for an evening with sculptor and educator, Kat Warwick.
An Ancient Journey: What can an art form teach us? In this one- hour presentation, Kat Warwick delves into the wisdom that the ancient art of shaping stone shares with her; opening a window into the wisdom your art form shares with you. What was wise thousands of years ago is still just as wise, but perhaps, harder to see. In the midst of modern advancements that come hurling at us a lightening speed, true wisdom has not changed. It remains the same. Join us, as Kat leads us through a stone carvers’ discovery of ancient wisdom and how that impacts her life as a modern artist.
Speaker Bio: From a place of curiosity, I create stories in stone. Through this magical partnership with the natural world, my work provides opportunities of discovery for all. It is my belief that if humans had not learned to partner with stone to create objects of usefulness, worship and beauty, we would not have developed into the advanced we are today. It is this ancient human/stone partnership that captures my creative heart, allowing the stone itself to become my muse.
VAL Art Talks take place the second Tuesday of each month at the Lewisville Grand Theater, 100 N. Charles St, in Old Town Lewisville.
The Grand is Lewisville’s home for the arts. It presents a variety of regional and national touring performers, art exhibits, and classes, while also giving the many arts groups in the greater Lewisville area a facility to perform and display their works. Its multiple performance spaces play host to a variety of events, including live music, theater, dance performances, comedy shows, and more. The center features the 294-seat Huffines Performance Hall, black box theater, recital hall, art gallery, and courtyard.
To reach The Grand from Interstate 35E, take exit 452 and proceed east on Main Street to Charles Street. The Grand will be on the left. Free public parking is available along Main and Church streets, or at Lewisville City Hall across Church Street from the center. Please be aware that there is heavy road construction at the Main Street interchange with 35E that will cause delays.
