Art Talk to feature artist Thai Nguyen
The Visual Art League of Lewisville presents Art Talk with artist Thai Nguyen on Tuesday, Nov. 14, 7 p.m., at Lewisville Grand Theater, 100 N. Charles Street.
Nguyen’s personal journey to Texas began in April 1975 aboard a C-130 Hercules aircraft as his family was airlifted out of Saigon, where his father had worked as an interpreter for the American Embassy. His artistic journey began as a non-English speaking 10-year-old who spent many classroom hours sketching and drawing at his desk, since he could not understand his classmates or instructors. His artistic talents were recognized by a teacher who submitted his work in a national contest, leading to a scholarship and degree from the Art Institute of Dallas.
In this talk, Nguyen will take attendees through both his personal and artistic journeys as well as showing them how his work comes into being. Thai has a background in graphic design, which is very evident in the clean accuracy of his work. He currently had two sculptures on display at the State Fair of Texas and will talk about that experience as well.
The Visual Art League of Lewisville is one of eight local groups receiving funding from the City of Lewisville through a grant program designed to foster cultural and fine arts in the community.
