Lewisville Talks – City Speaker Series: John Bramblitt
The Lewisville Talks – City Speaker Series continues to insight curiosity and promote meaningful conversation with its next engagement featuring Denton-based artist John Bramblitt who is also blind.
When John lost his eyesight he thought his world had come to an end. He felt isolated and misunderstood. Searching for something that would help him reconnect with the visual world John found painting. Painting not only became a way of expressing himself but also his way of understanding the world around him; in a way, painting has become both his eyes and his voice. John will share his methods, materials, and techniques that have evolved over the years and that led him from being someone who felt they could never paint again to someone who has had the great fortune of sharing their art with people all over the world.
This event is free to attend, but due to limited seating in the Black Box Theater, registration is required. Reserve your seats at lewisvillegrand.com/tix.
This talk is part of a series of events supporting Bramblitt’s art exhibition, Bramblitt: From the Beginning. The exhibition is a reflection of the past 20 years: a snapshot of his process, pain, and eventual calmness that he found in front of an easel. This is the first time he has looked all the way back to when he first created the techniques to paint without sight, and then on to each subsequent series as an adventure in subject matter, color exploration, and discovering new techniques. On this journey his artwork has gone to more than 120 countries; he has been appointed as a cultural ambassador by the state department; and he has discussed his art in some of the most respected museums in the world. Yet, he feels like he has barely begun his adventure into art and understanding how we truly perceive the world around us. The exhibition will be on display at The Grand Sept. 23 through Oct. 22. The Art Gallery is open Tuesday – Saturday, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m., as well as during public events at The Grand.
