She Saw a Need! Art Exhibition (Opening day)

“She Saw a Need!” Reflections of African American Culture and History through Quilting and Textile Arts
Presented by the Quilting Sisters of Color
June 13- July 11

Experience the vibrant artistry of the Quilting Sisters of Color in a stunning exhibition at the art gallery of the Lewisville Grand Theater. On view June 13–July 11, this exhibition celebrates culture, storytelling, and tradition through richly crafted quilts that blend history with contemporary design. Join us for the opening reception on Saturday, June 13 from 7–9 p.m. and meet the artists behind these powerful, beautifully stitched works.

Celebrating their 30th Anniversary as an arts organization, Quilting Sisters of Color (QSOC) is a group of artists based in the DFW Metroplex who share a passion for the art of quilting and textiles. Founded in 1996, their works have been featured at the American Airlines DFW Terminal, the TAAC – TRAHC African American Committee Museum, Texarkana, Texas, Dallas Museum of Art, Community Centers and Churches throughout the DFW Metroplex. QSOC’s strong community outreach program has donated quilts to the Quilts of Valor Foundation and offered classes and presentations to bring awareness to the history and use of textiles.

In 2025, over 800 individual items (including 303 Christmas Stockings) were provided to 6 organizations. These prize-winning artists have been featured both in national and international exhibits. Books, magazines and social media platforms have shown many of their works. State Fair of Texas Ribbons grace the homes of many members, including two Best of Show Blue Ribbons (2021 & 2024). The Quilting Sisters of Color’s dazzling works are anchored by their four pillars of commitment – Creativity, Love, Inspiration and Community. “She saw a need!” Come be a part of what 30 years have produced.

The Art Gallery at the Lewisville Grand Theater is open to the public Tuesday-Saturday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. and during public events. Exhibitions are always free to visit.

This exhibition will be available for viewing during the City of Lewisville’s three-day event Juneteenth: The Cookout that celebrates the heart of community. Inspired by the tradition of gathering to share stories, music, laughter, and joy, this multiday event captures that spirit — no grill required. Experience live music, comedy, poetry, visual arts, and more in a vibrant, welcoming atmosphere. Together, we honor history, celebrate culture, and embrace the freedom that brings us all to the table.

To reach The Grand from Interstate 35E, take exit 452 and proceed east on Main Street to Charles Street. The Grand will be on the left. Free public parking is available along Main and Church streets, or at Lewisville City Hall across Church Street from the center.
