Masterpieces in Motion

This April, LakeCities Ballet Theatre will present “Masterpieces in Motion” at the Lewisville Grand Theatre, with two performances on Friday, April 4 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, April 6 at 2 p.m. This program will highlight the beauty, innovation and versatility of LBT dancers and artistic staff. Featured in this program, Serenade, Choreography by George Balanchine © with permission from The George Balanchine Trust.

Staged by Leslie Peck, Balanchine Repetit. Serenade is the first ballet George Balanchine created in the United States, and it recently celebrated its 90th anniversary. The longevity of this ballet is because it provides as close to a spiritual experience as can be found in ballet. “From the moment the curtain rises – on an iconic image of 17 women standing still and serene – to the last glimpse of their pointe shoes at the curtain falls, Serenade takes gentle hold of our emotions.” Special permission must be granted to perform a Balanchine work, and LBT is honored to perform Serenade, not only to bring this Masterpiece to our audiences in Lewisville, but for our dancers to experience this beloved work.

Also presented in our mixed program will be contemporary choreography by LBT Alumni, Steven Loch (currently a principal dancer with Miami City Ballet), Anastasia Waters (Director of Impulse Dance Company), and Sarah Solomon Rosenzweig (Directory of LakeCities Ballet Theatre 2).

The second act of our performance will end with what LBT does best! Classical Ballet! Paquita is a breathtaking showcase of classical dance dominated by female dancers with demanding steps for all involved – and at many times, the steps of the principal are mirrored by the corps de ballet. The ballet was set in Spain and therefore, requires Spanish character style. Today, these pieces without the original story are a major part of the traditional classical ballet repertory and have been staged by ballet companies throughout the world.

The performances take place at the Lewisville Grand Theater on Friday, April 4 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, April 6 at 2 p.m.  Tickets are available at www.lakecitiesballet.org.

The Grand is Lewisville’s home for the arts. It presents a variety of regional and national touring performers, art exhibits, and classes, while also giving the many arts groups in the greater Lewisville area a facility to perform and display their works. Its multiple performance spaces play host to a variety of events, including live music, theater, dance performances, comedy shows, and more. The center features the 294-seat Huffines Performance Hall, black box theater, recital hall, art gallery, and courtyard.

To reach The Grand from Interstate 35E, take exit 452 and proceed east on Main Street to Charles Street. The Grand will be on the left. Free public parking is available along Main and Church streets, or at Lewisville City Hall across Church Street from the center. Please be aware that there is heavy road construction at the Main Street interchange with 35E that will cause delays.
