VAL Art Talk Fostering Content in Your Artwork

Join the Visual Art League of Lewisville for its monthly general meeting at Lewisville Grand Theater. Each month in conjunction with the general meeting, VAL produces an “Art Talk” series of known speakers and art demonstrations that are free and open to the public. Join us for an evening with artist and educator, Eilene Houston Carver.

She will present an open-ended discussion on “Fostering Content in your artwork.” She will highlight journaling and self-exploration to help you discover what it is you desire to express through your work.  Eilene Carver still-life paintings are narrative, featuring an evolving iconography of objects from her domestic landscape. The symbols in her work play a significant role in reflecting themes of connection, vulnerability, hope, loss, and fate. Her artistic process is marked by subtle exaggeration of light and its impact on color, often resulting in a “surreal” realism.

Since 2017, she has simultaneously painted the skies and botanicals of the Texas Hill Country, reconnecting with imagery that sparked her passion for hiking and exploring nature as a young girl. This led her to initiate an ongoing collaboration in 2022 known as Texas Sisters Art with her sister and fellow artist, Nancy Lawrence.

About the Speaker Eilene is a Dallas Ft Worth area artist, raised in South Texas, one of four visual artists in her family. She holds an MFA in Painting from UC Berkeley and earned her BFA in Design from Baylor. Her work has been included in national & regional juried exhibitions, receiving multiple awards, and resides in numerous private collections throughout the US. Eilene has taught at Napa Valley College, The Richmond Art Center and currently Collin College where she has received the Vision Award and Outstanding Professor of the Year. As a professor she is known for her passionate student interaction and encouragement of individual creative growth. Current and past professional art organizations include Women’s Caucus for

VAL Art Talks take place the second Tuesday of each month at the Lewisville Grand Theater, 100 N. Charles St, in Old Town Lewisville.
